Zooz UU750 52V Battery Mod: More Punch, More Range, Still Feels Like a Zooz

I’ve been riding the Zooz UU750 as a super-fun, BMX-meets-moto-style e-bike that already feels quick in stock form. But after spending time with it, I wanted a little more punch off the line, a bit more top-end, and more battery to stretch the rides.

So I did the 48V-to-52V battery mod using a 52V 20Ah battery in a frame bag. The whole point wasn’t chasing spec-sheet bragging rights—it was seeing what it feels like in real street riding.

The Stock UU750 Baseline

Out of the box, the UU750’s stock 48V 16Ah battery already delivers solid low-end torque and a lively top speed for city cruising. It’s the kind of bike that encourages quick sprints, curb hops, and short bursts of throttle.

A couple stock items still pushed me toward modding, though:

The center kickstand works, but it leans the bike at a weird angle and can interfere with the crank arm.

The stock hydraulic brakes were fine, but I wanted a lighter lever feel and a bit more confidence when riding harder.

And tire-wise, I’m just a Hookworm person for street riding.

The 52V 20Ah Battery Upgrade (Plug-and-Play Feel)

This upgrade ended up being way simpler than most people expect.

I removed the seat, popped out the stock battery with the key, and left the original battery plate in place so I can revert to stock later without ripping everything apart.

The key detail: the bike uses an XT90 connection at the controller side, and the battery I used is XT60. That means you’ll need an XT60-to-XT90 adapter to connect everything.

Instead of trying to cram a bigger battery into the stock location, I mounted the 52V battery in a bag on the top tube area. It’s a little awkward the first time, but it gets easy if you take your time and snug the straps down properly. I also sleeved the cable so it blends in and looks cleaner against the frame.

Once everything was physically installed, I changed the display/bike settings to 52V. That step matters—don’t skip it.

Ride Impressions: What 52V Changes on the UU750

The first ride told me immediately whether this mod was worth it.

More torque and a stronger “hit”

The biggest difference is the way it responds on throttle. The bike feels like it has more punch—more urgency—especially from a stop. It doesn’t just roll forward quickly; it snaps forward with more intent.

That extra shove makes the UU750 feel closer to a more aggressive, higher-voltage ride without changing the character of the bike. It’s still nimble and playful—it just has more muscle behind it.

A bit more top-end

With the 52V setup, I saw 30+ mph. It’s not a night-and-day jump in speed, but it’s enough to make the UU750 feel more “awake” on longer straight sections.

Better range potential

Going from 16Ah to 20Ah is the kind of change you appreciate after the novelty wears off—when you’re doing normal rides and you realize you’re not thinking about battery as much.

Handling and weight didn’t get weird

I weighed the stock battery against the 52V battery I used and they came out about the same—right around 9 pounds. Because of that (and because of where the bag sits), the bike stayed manageable. I didn’t feel like the mod ruined the flickable, compact feel that makes the UU750 so fun.

Controller compatibility (real-world observation)

Even though the controller is rated for 48V, it handled the extra voltage in my testing without issues. That said, this is still a mod—use common sense, keep an eye on temps, and don’t abuse charging habits.

Supporting Mods That Made the Whole Setup Better

I didn’t stop at the battery, because the whole goal was making the UU750 feel better as a complete ride.

Maxxis Hookworm tires

I’m a huge fan of Hookworms for street riding. They give the bike a more planted feel, with solid traction and stability on pavement.

Rear-view mirror

A mirror is one of those unsexy upgrades that I consider mandatory for real commuting and city riding. It’s instant rear awareness with fewer shoulder checks.

Adjustable rear kickstand

Moving away from the stock center stand was a quality-of-life upgrade. Parking feels more natural, and you can choose a position that works for how you actually use the bike.

Shimano MT200 rear hydraulic brake

The MT200 gave me more confidence and a better brake feel. For casual riding it’s great, and when I’m riding more aggressively it helps the bike feel more controlled.

What We Like

The 52V setup adds noticeable torque and a stronger throttle response

30+ mph is a fun bump for riders who want a little more excitement

Increased capacity (20Ah) means less range anxiety on longer rides

The battery upgrade is basically plug-and-play with the right adapter

Weight stayed about the same as stock, so the bike still feels nimble

Easy to revert back to stock since the original battery plate can stay on

Things To Consider

You must change the voltage setting in the display to 52V

The controller is rated for 48V; even if it worked fine for me, you’re still pushing outside the official rating

Plan your wiring: XT60/XT90 compatibility matters, and a clean cable run makes a big difference

Frame-bag mounting takes patience to get tight and secure (don’t rush the strap setup)

Take care of the battery: let it cool down, and charge responsibly (I prefer low-amp charging)

Final Thoughts

The Zooz UU750 is already a solid foundation in stock form, but the 52V 20Ah battery mod made it feel like a more serious machine the moment I rolled on the throttle. The extra punch is the headline, the slight top-speed increase is the bonus, and the extra capacity is what makes the upgrade feel worth it week after week.

If you already own a UU750 and want a more energetic ride without jumping to a completely different model, this is one of the most satisfying upgrades I’ve done. It keeps the bike’s fun, compact personality—just with more power on tap.
