This past Halloween I wanted to wear a costume that was eye catching with wearable LED lighting. My research on Amazon turned up some pretty limited results that either seemed really cheap or not very bright. Then I stumbled upon Glowy Zoey which has been around for about 2 years. After seeing their press videos and reviews I decided to pick one up.

I ordered the Adult LED Stickman Costume and when it arrived I was really surprised at the quality of the materials. The black hoodie and pants don’t feel like cheap, generic sweatsuit material but something a little more premium. They even come with sewn on clear straps that snap to hold the LED strip lights. The positioning and number of straps on the suit are a solid design choice, keeping the whole system taut and in place to create the stick figure illusion. On the back of the hoodie is a custom pocket to hold the battery which is easily accessible while wearing it.

The LEDs themselves definitely look and feel professional-grade. They are encased in a weatherproof silicone sleeve similar to Philips outdoor LED strip lights. Each LED strip connects together with j connectors that are manipulated by a controller with 6 brightness levels and flashing modes: steady on, fast pulse, pulse, blink, flash, and strobe. Because of the amount of LEDs, the battery box requires 8 double A batteries which is somewhat bulky but manageable. Depending on brightness levels and how long you keep it on, 8 batteries should last a few hours.

As far as an affordable LED suit goes, the Glowy Zoey is a pretty great value for what you get. I wore it a few times, including at a nighttime outdoor event and it definitely received a lot of attention, mostly good but there were some folks who were annoyed at the brightness. At full brightness, the suit is very obnoxious to look at because it’s so blinding. I typically kept it around 75% and lower just to avoid blinding anyone. But that’s not really a bad thing and I think it’s a testimony to the quality of LEDs Glowy Zoey uses for their products.

Overall, I’m really happy with my Glowy Zoey LED suit. It has a really thoughtful design without any shortcuts in quality. Is it possible to put together your own LED suit using similar parts bought on Amazon? Absolutely, but at this price point, it really saves all the time and effort.
