Chi Battery Systems Super73 Z1 Mini Fast Charger Unboxing
Fast charging is a popular feature for ebikes because it allows you to power up in just a fraction of the time it takes to do it with a traditional charger. In this video, we unbox the Chi Battery Systems Super73 Z1 Mini Fast Charger and talk about what you need to know to make sure you're getting the fastest charge possible.
So why do you need a fast charger? Well, being able to quickly charge your Z1 battery can mean the difference between hours of care-free riding or scrambling indoors to find the nearest power outlet. Fast charging is a really popular feature for ebikes because it allows you to power up your bike in just a fraction of the time it takes to do it with a traditional charger. So let's check out Chi Battery Systems Super73 Z1 Mini Fast Charger and talk about what you need to know to make sure you're getting the fastest charge possible.
So what exactly is Fast Charging? Well the output of the Z1 charger is measured in amperage and voltage. Amperage or current is the amount of electricity flowing from the battery to the ebike, while voltage is the strength of the electric current. Multiplying volts by amps gives you wattage, the measure of total power.
To make a Super73 Z1 battery charge faster, Chi Battery Systems boosts the amperage in order to increase the amount of potential energy. In this case, it's using 6 amps instead of the stock charger which is only 2 amps. Super73 claims their stock 2 amp charger takes about 6-7 hours of charging time which is about accurate. However, Chi Battery Systems fast charger can charge from dead to full in under 2 hours. I never usually ride my battery until it's dead but I did top it off with the fast charger and it only took about 10 minutes from 75-80% capacity. It also features a a premium battery port, a fan for cooling, and a fuse port. It will also balance charge the cells work with Chi Battery Systems upcoming Z1 battery upgrade which has been a much requested product from most Z1 owners.
Now you also have to remember, fast charging all of the time can potentially be hard on the battery. Generally, the larger the battery, the safer and healthier it is to charge at high amps. For example 6 amps is fast for the Z1's 11.6 amp hour battery but not so fast for a 20 amp hour battery. If you fast charge your battery all the time, it will reduce the life expectancy. However, the Z1 does contain quality Panasonic cells so it theoretically shouldn't degrade too much. I would advise to charge on a case by case basis. If you know you're about to ride in 2 hours go with the fast charge. If the bike is parked for the day, go with the slow charge.
