DIY Super73 Z1 Motorcycle Headlight
The Super73 Z1 doesn't come up with a classic retro headlight so I decided to make my own with a few parts off Amazon and eBay. I wanted to keep this DIY project simple and affordable. So here's how you do it.
Required Tools:
Adjustable Wrench
Screwdriver
1/4-20 Allen Key
Aluminum Foil Tape
Parts Used:
6.5" Retro Motorcycle Headlight
1200 Lumens Bike Light
Andycine R1 RGB Pocket Light (Rear Light)
2 x Smallrig 25mm Rod Clamp
2 x 1/4-20 Socket Screw
Step 1
The first step is remove the halogen bulb from the motorcycle housing. This is fairly straight forward. Just pop off the two screws on the housing and remove the bulbs inside. Be careful not to break the tabs that are around the lip of the bulb opening.
Step 2
Next, you will install the bike light. The light comes with two rubber straps. You’ll be using the smaller one so keep that to the side. Wrap the light with the aluminum foil tape along the edges then wrap the short rubber strap along the edge of the lip. Then place the bike light into the hole of the housing. The strap will keep the light from falling inside. Finally, tape down the light to the housing with another strip of foil tape. Be sure to wrap it all around so it keeps the light secure inside of the housing. Run the wire through the opening of the rear housing then close it up with the two top screws.
Step 3
Attach the Smallrig clamps to the fork of the Super73 with the 1/4-20 holes facing outward. Keep the clamps loose and angled. Next you’ll have to bend the moto brackets outwards so the headlight will fit. Use a vise to bend them slightly. Finally, attach the moto brackets to the Smallrig clamps using your 1/4-20 screws and washer.
Step 4
Attach the moto headlight to the brackets using the existing hardware. The rubber grommet goes on the housing, then the moto bracket, then the grill on top of that. Screw the bolt and washers in on both sides but again keep it all loose until the end. Once you have it all installed, make your final adjustments and tighten all loose screws.
Step 5
The bike light comes with a battery pouch that you can strap to the Z1 frame. I strap it near the center stem so it hides where the stem and fork meets. Then you run the wire up to the housing. The wire is long so you can bunch it up and zip tie it to the inside of the housing. Once everything is installed, place your finger into the housing and push the button on the bike light to turn it on. There’s only three modes. Bright, low brightness and flash.
So that’s how you make your own DIY Super73 Z1 Motorcycle Headlight mod. I'd love to see your setup if you try this modification! Hit me up if you have any questions or suggestions.
