First Look: CAME-TV Waero Wireless Headset
So why do you need a hands free headset? Well the main reason is team communication for video shoots. In almost any situation, you'd want to carry a natural conversation while you're coordinating your work from anywhere on location. And that's where the CAME-TV Waero comes in. With the Waero, you just talk. There's no delays, no buttons to push and you never have to wait your turn like traditional walkie talkies. You talk when you want to and interrupt when you need to. These days with social distancing and increased health protocols on live action shoots, hands free headsets are an important tool to increased efficiency.
So the Waero's come in different sized kits from 2 pieces all the up to 9 pieces depending on the size of your team. I ended up going with the 4 piece kit. Here's what's in the box. You get a durable, heavy duty hardcase with 4 headsets that are compact and fold easily. You also get two dual chargers with micro USB cables and 4 NB-6L style 3.7 volt 1600 milliamp batteries. If you need additional batteries, the NB-6L battery is a common Canon camera battery that can found anywhere like on Amazon. The charge time for each battery is about 2 hours.
To turn on the headset you simply push the power button. To talk, you move the microphone arm down and to mute, you simply move the microphone arm up. It's that simple. When turned on, you have a talk time of about 12-15 hours with standby time at about 100 hours. This will essentially last an entire day so you never have to worry about having to recharge in the middle of a shoot. Range is about 1200 feet and the signal can easily pass through walls or other obstacles.
I've used the Waero's on a few video shoots and they have been very effective for communicating my directions, especially to my cinematographer or AD. So wherever we are, instead of having to walk over, wave them down or stop what they're doing, I can just speak to them like a natural conversation. So what does that mean exactly? Well a natural conversation is basically the way we're used to talking when we're face to face. Everyone can talk when they have something important to say. You hear everyone, everyone hears you and no one is waiting for their turn.
The sound quality is very clear so it literally sounds like I'm on a conference call. There are no delays or taking turns to speak. When I have something important to say, my crew understands me and no shouting is required. A clear understanding the first time a message is heard saves time, improves operational efficiency and ultimately saves your budget by sticking to your schedule. Also since it's hands-free, it allows my crew to keep their hands on their work without interrupting their flow. No more having to press buttons on a walkie or fumbling with shoulder mics and ear wigs. And with our current health protocols, it makes keeping safe distance for communications much more effective.
The CAME-TV Waero is really a pleasure to use and a solid recommend because it's something I believe will save you time, money and could help your teams become more efficient and productive through better communication. Additionally, it can ensure more than the minimum of 6 feet social distancing while working in order to comply with safety recommendations.
