My parents are from the Philippines - a developing country located in Southeast Asia with almost a quarter of the population living well below the national poverty line. Their GDP or Gross Domestic Product and life expectancy also fall below the threshold for developed country status. Let me put it another way. An income of thirty two thousand, four hundred US dollars per year is among the top 1% of income earners in the entire world. So congratulations, most of you are part of the global 1%.
