Freego X0 Electric Mini Bike Review: Big Hub-Motor Fun in a Tiny Package

The Freego X0 is one of those mini e-bikes that makes you do a double-take—mostly because the rear wheel is basically all motor.
Freego put a huge rear hub motor into a pit-bike-style frame, and the result is a compact, quiet, low-maintenance ripper that feels more “EV scooter smooth” than “chain-driven mini dirt bike rowdy.” But that also brings some trade-offs—especially when you point it uphill or start pushing it off-road.

If you’re shopping for a mini bike that’s simple to live with, the hub motor is the headline.
No chain drive means less maintenance and a super quiet ride. The flip side is you can feel that weight bias in the rear, and the power delivery is more “builds as it spins” than “instant low-end yank.”

That rear wheel is all business
The X0 runs a knobby 10 x 3 rear tire, and the motor fills the wheel. It’s rated 2000W and peaks at 3600W (based on my test), which is a lot for something this small.
The feel matches what you’d expect from a hub setup: not a ton of snap right off the line, but it wakes up once the RPM comes up—especially in the mid and top range.
Suspension and brakes: more capable than you’d think
You’ve got full suspension front and rear. The rear shock has preload and rebound adjustment, and the front fork includes compression adjustment.
Braking is handled by two-piston hydraulic disc brakes front and rear. They’re described as “bike brakes” rather than moto-style, but the rotors are big and thick. On the ride, braking worked well, though the rider mentioned I’d still prefer true moto brakes for this style of mini bike.
Controls, lighting, and “small bike” details
The cockpit is straightforward:
Full twist throttle
Left-mounted LCD display
Five power levels (not just three)
Bright headlight
Tail light and rear turn signals
Loud moto-style horn
One important note for daily use: there’s no key ignition. The key only locks the battery in the frame; the bike powers on via a switch.
Real-world ride impressions
On pavement: quiet, smooth, and faster than expected
The X0’s personality shows up immediately. It’s super quiet—one of the most noticeable differences versus chain-driven minis.
Power delivery is described as very smooth. In the lower power levels it’s easygoing and manageable, and as you step up the assist levels it starts to feel more playful.
During the Dragy-style run in power level 5, the bike ramps up slowly at first, then builds speed. The rider saw low 40s mph and hit about 45 mph downhill, which surprised me enough that I backed off.
Around town: nimble and easy to place
Because it’s a small pit-bike layout, it feels responsive and easy to flick around. It also seems well suited for rough city streets—potholes, cracks, and broken pavement—where the suspension and tires can do their thing.
Off-road: capable, but you feel the hub-motor bias
On light trails, it does better than you might expect. Standing up helps a lot, and the bike stays surprisingly nimble.
That said, it’s still a rear-heavy hub motor mini bike. The rider’s takeaway was basically: it can do trails, but I’d rather ride it on pavement.
Hills: not its favorite place
Uphill, the limitation of a hub motor shows. I noticed it struggles more on climbs (again, not shocking for this layout), and you’ll work the battery harder when you’re asking it to pull uphill.
Fit and sizing reality
This is a small mini bike—smaller than many, largely because of the 10-inch rear wheel.
The rider (30-inch inseam) felt fine on it, but mentioned taller/bigger riders will probably feel cramped.

The Freego X0 is a solid pick if you want a mini e-ride that’s simple, stealthy-quiet, and genuinely fun on pavement—with enough suspension and knobby tire confidence to mess around on light trails.
Just go into it understanding what the hub motor changes: you trade some low-speed climbing punch and balanced “dirt bike” feel for quiet operation, less maintenance, and smooth speed-building power. If that matches your riding life—city streets, neighborhood cruises, rough pavement, and occasional trail detours—the X0 makes a lot of sense.
