SKRMOD LBX Rack Kit Review: The Modular Cargo Upgrade My Surron Actually Needed

I love my Surron for quick missions and messing around… but stock, it’s basically allergic to carrying anything. If I want to bring a charger, tools, a lock, a jacket, or even just my everyday pockets-stuff without wearing a backpack, the bike doesn’t really help me out.
That’s why I was immediately interested in the SKRMOD LBX Rack Kit. It’s not just a little plate under the seat. Once I got it in-hand, installed it, and rode with it (including some rowdy riding), it started to feel less like an “accessory” and more like a real utility upgrade for the Light Bee.
A legit unboxing moment
The kit showed up as a pile of boxes, and the first thing that stood out was how complete it felt. It even includes a little tool kit (Allen keys, wrenches, a screwdriver, plus a tool for the seat connector clips). That’s a small touch, but it sets the tone: this isn’t some generic aluminum rack with mystery hardware.
The machining and finish looked clean right out of the box, and the anodized orange had that “premium parts” vibe. I did notice the rear rack piece on mine was a slightly different shade than some of the other parts. It didn’t bother me much once installed (and it’s at the back anyway), but it’s worth knowing if you’re super picky about perfectly matched anodizing.
Install experience (easier than I expected)
Going in, I assumed this would be a long afternoon project. It wasn’t.
Once I got into it, the install moved quickly. The way the system fits onto the subframe is the key: it wraps around like a sleeve/exoskeleton and then ties in with additional mounting points forward on the frame. So instead of “hanging” weight off the back of the stock subframe, it’s more like it’s reinforcing and distributing loads.
The whole setup feels thought-out from an engineering standpoint, not just a bunch of plates stacked together.
How it changes the Surron’s vibe
As soon as it was on the bike, the back end looked more aggressive and kind of cyberpunk-ish. It definitely reads as aftermarket, but in a way that makes the Surron look more purpose-built.
More importantly, it changes the feel. The stock rear/seat area can have that slightly flexy, plasticky vibe when you ride hard or move around on the bike. With the LBX kit installed, the rear felt noticeably more rigid. That extra stiffness is something you feel immediately when you’re shifting your weight, especially if you’re the type who rides the bike like it’s meant to be ridden.
Modularity is the real win
What I like most is that this kit is modular. You don’t have to run everything.
Depending on what you actually do with your Surron, you can mix and match:
Run just the upper/lower base structure
Add the side racks for storage
Add (or skip) the rear rack
Add (or skip) the side handles
That matters because not everybody wants their Light Bee to look like a cargo mule 24/7. Some days I want utility. Some days I want the bike as clean and minimal as possible.
Real-world storage: bags that actually make sense
Once I started attaching MOLLE-style pouches/bags, the whole system clicked. The slot patterns and mounting points make it easy to strap things down securely without weird DIY brackets.
I ran a larger MOLLE bag on one side and a smaller pouch on the other, and I kept them positioned forward so there was no chance of contact with the rear tire. The bags sat close to the frame and stayed tucked out of the way.
That “tucked” feeling is huge. The last thing I want is storage that sticks out and snags my leg every time I shift position.
Ride impressions (including harder riding)
On the ride, the kit felt solid—no rattly vibes, no sketchy flex. The rear of the bike felt more planted and reinforced, especially around the seat/subframe area.
Even during more aggressive riding and moving around the bike, the side bags didn’t interfere. I didn’t feel like my knees or legs were constantly negotiating with the rack.
One interesting bonus: even though it’s not intended as a stunt part, the structure felt sturdy enough that I didn’t feel nervous testing weight on it briefly. The general impression was confidence—like the subframe area was less likely to feel over-stressed compared to stock.
Utility scenarios where it actually shines
This kit makes a ton of sense if you:
Carry a charger (even a small one) while riding around town
Commute and want a place for locks/tools/rain layer
Use the Surron for errands
Want to build a more “daily usable” Light Bee
It’s also the kind of setup that could support creative cargo solutions—milk crate style, a case, or a strapped-down bag—without the whole rear end feeling like it’s one pothole away from regret.

Adds noticeable rigidity to the rear/seat/subframe area
Modular design lets me run only the pieces I want
Tons of usable mounting slots/points for bags and accessories
Side bags can sit close to the frame and stay out of the way
Premium feel: machining, packaging, and included tool kit are all solid
Things To Consider
The full kit adds weight to the rear of the bike (you’ll feel the subframe get heavier)
Anodized colors can vary slightly between pieces (my rear rack shade differed a bit)
If you don’t run bags, the look can feel a little “busy” depending on your taste
If you’re a dedicated stunt rider, you may want to think through how the rear rack area affects foot placement and leg movement
Final Thoughts
The SKRMOD LBX Rack Kit is one of those upgrades that makes the Surron feel more like a real vehicle and less like a toy with nowhere to put your stuff.
What surprised me is how much it improved the overall rear-end feel. I went in expecting storage and got added rigidity and confidence back there too. If you’ve been trying to make your Light Bee more practical—without resorting to sketchy bolt-on plates—this kit is a seriously good direction.
