Insta360 ONE RS on an eBike (and a Cinewhoop): The One Camera That Actually Keeps Up
April 16, 2022
If you film eBike rides, you already know the pain: you want GoPro-style “set it and forget it” simplicity, but you also want the wild angles that make rides feel fast, playful, and immersive.

That’s exactly why I’ve been spending time with the Insta360 ONE RS. It’s a modular action camera system that can be a traditional 4K action cam one moment, and a full 360 camera the next. I ran it on real rides and even put it on a cinewhoop FPV drone to see if it could do double-duty.
Here’s how it felt to live with.
Unboxing and first setup
The kit I tested came with the basics you actually need to get rolling right away, including a 64GB memory card. In the box I had:
The core unit
The 4K Boost lens
The 360 lens
Battery
USB-C cable
360 lens protector
Mount hardware and a case
Lens cloth
The overall vibe is “camera LEGO,” but in a good way.
Modularity in the real world (it’s fast)
Swapping between the 4K Boost lens and the 360 lens is genuinely quick. I could go from one setup to the other in seconds: pop the pieces apart, swap the lens module, and click everything back together.
That matters on an eBike day because conditions change fast. Sometimes I want a simple, stable POV clip. Other times I want that 360 flexibility where I can decide the angle later.
How it feels on an eBike
The 360 lens is the “never miss” option
For eBikes, the 360 lens is the cheat code.
Instead of stressing about whether my camera is aimed perfectly forward, I can just ride. The big win is choosing the framing later in post—front, back, side, over-the-bars vibes, whatever fits the moment. It’s also the easiest path to those classic invisible selfie stick style shots that make the footage feel like it was filmed by someone chasing you.
On trail or street, that flexibility translates to more usable clips per ride. I don’t have to stop and re-aim constantly.
The 4K Boost lens is for “traditional action cam” days
When I want a more straightforward action camera setup, the 4K Boost lens gives that familiar point-and-shoot workflow. I can mount it, hit record, and focus on the ride.
The ONE RS core also brings Insta360’s stabilization and audio improvements into the mix, so it’s not just about resolution—it’s about getting smoother, more watchable footage without overthinking it.
Mounting it to a cinewhoop FPV drone
I mounted the ONE RS to a GEPRC CineLog 30 and tested it in the air.
One detail I really liked: I was able to remove the battery to shave weight, then power the camera through USB. Because the ONE RS has a USB port, I could run it from the balance lead of my 4S battery. That’s a practical move when you’re trying to keep weight down and get better flight characteristics.
In hand, the ONE RS felt lighter than a GoPro 9 or 10, and that matters on smaller FPV platforms where every gram changes how the quad flies.
Insta360 ONE RS vs the “GoPro + 360 cam” route
A lot of riders ask whether they should go with a GoPro (like a HERO 10) or a 360 camera.
The ONE RS is compelling because it can cover both roles.
Price-wise (at the time I tested), the ONE RS was around $550, while buying a GoPro HERO 10 plus a GoPro Max 360 setup was closer to $950. That’s a big gap.
And if you only want the action-cam side, the ONE RS 4K edition was priced well below the HERO 10 (around $299 vs. the HERO 10 being higher).
What We Like
True two-in-one versatility: 4K action cam when I want simplicity, 360 when I want creative freedom
Fast lens swaps that make sense mid-ride
360 reframing lets me focus on riding instead of babysitting camera angles
Works well on an FPV cinewhoop setup, with helpful weight-saving options by powering via USB
Strong value compared to buying separate action + 360 cameras
Things To Consider
Modular systems add a little complexity: there are more pieces to manage than a single-body action cam
If you mainly want “press record and forget forever,” you’ll probably gravitate toward the 4K lens most of the time and only swap to 360 when you know you’ll use it
Powering off an FPV battery through USB is convenient, but it’s still drawing from your flight pack—plan for that in your setup
Final Thoughts
The Insta360 ONE RS is the first camera in this category that genuinely feels like it can keep up with how I ride and how I like to create.
On an eBike, the 360 lens gives me the most interesting angles with the least effort, and the 4K Boost lens covers the days when I just want classic action cam footage. Add in the fact that I can also throw it on a cinewhoop and take advantage of USB power and weight savings, and it starts to feel like a core piece of the kit rather than a niche camera.
If you’ve been stuck deciding between a GoPro-style action camera and a 360 cam, the ONE RS makes that decision a lot easier because it’s basically both.
