Tomofree x YYG BR100 Review: A Retro Cylinder E-Bike That Turns Every Ride Into a Cruise

There are e-bikes that blend in, and then there are e-bikes that make people stop mid-walk and ask, “What is that?” The Tomofree x YYG BR100 is firmly in the second category.

I spent time getting it set up, poking around the details, and putting real miles on it—street cruising, a hill pull, some rougher pavement—just to see if the looks are backed up by legit ride quality. Spoiler: it’s not just a styling exercise. This thing has a surprisingly dialed feel on the road.

The vibe: retro moped meets sci‑fi cylinder

The BR100’s signature is that long cylindrical body. It gives the bike a minimalist silhouette, but it still feels aggressive—almost aerodynamic—especially paired with the low-rise bars and the chunky 20x4 fat tires.

It also comes with a brown frame bag that matches the space gray/brown colorway nicely. It’s a small detail, but it adds a lot to the “built as a complete vibe” look instead of feeling like an afterthought.

Setup and first impressions

A big part of the BR100’s personality is its weight and where that weight sits. With the battery hidden inside the cylinder and a hub motor in the rear, it feels rear-heavy when you’re moving it around by hand.

The removable battery has a satisfying, substantial heft to it. If you ever need to transport the bike, taking the battery out first is the move.

Controls are straightforward: I had a half-twist throttle on the right, hydraulic brake levers, and a bright color display that’s easy to read. Up on the bars, the switches cover basics like lights, turn signals, and horn.

On the road: smooth power, natural assist

Rolling out on pedal assist level 3, the first thing I noticed was the tune. Acceleration felt smooth and intentional—no awkward surge, no weird delay. The throttle response is quick, and the pedal assist felt natural enough that I immediately trusted it.

Because the bike is heavy, I bumped up to pedal assist level 5 to see how it behaved when I asked for maximum support. That’s where the BR100 really surprised me.

Hill test: it just eats inclines

On a climb, the BR100 didn’t feel like it was bargaining with the hill—it felt like it was ignoring it. With assist turned up, it pulled strongly and stayed composed.

I also saw a quick top-speed run reach about 34 mph under pedal assist level 5. That’s fast enough that you immediately appreciate the braking and the bike’s overall stability.

Braking: confidence-inspiring hydraulic discs

With speed comes the need for real stopping power, and the dual hydraulic disc brakes delivered. Hard braking felt controlled and predictable, and I never had that “hope and pray” feeling you can get on heavier moped-style e-bikes.

Comfort: better than the bars suggest

I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about the low-rise handlebars because they push you into a more forward, aggressive stance. In practice, the bike ended up being much more comfortable than I expected.

The saddle is super soft, and the suspension setup helps keep you planted:

The seat height is up there, and the saddle isn’t adjustable. I could ride it fine, but at a stop it definitely felt tall for me. If you’re under about 5'5", I’d expect it to be a challenge. If you’re around 5'8"/5'9" and up, the geometry makes a lot more sense.

Noise and tire choice: knobby tread is noticeable

Those 20x4 knobby tires look right on a retro moped-style build and give it a dual-sport vibe, but they’re louder on pavement than smoother street tires. It’s not a dealbreaker—just part of the personality.

Weight and portability: be honest about your living situation

The BR100 is heavy (listed at 82 lb), and you feel it. If you’re carrying this into a walk-up apartment or lifting it onto a rack regularly, that’s going to shape your ownership experience.

For garage parking, driveway storage, or ground-floor life, it’s much easier to justify.

Little details I appreciated

A few things stood out as “everyday nice to have”:

Integrated front and rear fenders: actually useful if you ride in less-than-perfect conditions

Integrated headlight and tail light: visibility feels built-in, not bolted-on

Turn signals and brake-activated tail light: adds a bit of real-world practicality

Bright color display: easy to glance at while riding

Knobby fat tires are louder on pavement than street-focused tires

If you need frequent portability (stairs, racks, small elevators), plan around the weight (removing the battery helps)

The Tomofree x YYG BR100 is the kind of e-bike you buy because you want the moped vibe without looking like everyone else on a generic fat tire build. But the best part is that it doesn’t just look cool—it rides with real confidence.

The tune feels right, the assist feels natural, and it has the kind of power that makes hills a non-event. As long as the seat height works for your body and the weight works for your lifestyle, it’s a seriously fun cruiser that’s going to get attention everywhere you roll.
