Saul’s Upholstery “Low Brat” Hex Seat for the Onyx RCR: The Custom Upgrade I’d Actually Ride Daily

If you’ve spent any real time on an Onyx RCR, you already know the stock seat does the job… but it’s not exactly something you look forward to sitting on for longer rides. I wanted a seat that felt more premium, matched the bike better, and made the riding position work for me.

So I swapped in Saul’s Upholstery’s latest Onyx RCR design: the “Low Brat” with a hexagon (honeycomb) stitch pattern. After installing it and doing a quick ride-around to feel the difference, I get why people go the custom route.

A Custom Look That Actually Fits the RCR

The first thing that hit me was the hex pattern. I’ve seen diamonds. I’ve seen simple horizontal stitching. This hex design looks genuinely different, and it gives the RCR a more intentional, custom build vibe instead of “factory e-moped.”

Saul’s branding detail is clean, and what I really like is that the embroidery is done in-house on the leather itself—it doesn’t look like an add-on patch or something that was slapped on at the end.

The orange stitching pops nicely, and the piping/trim has that extra touch that makes the whole seat feel more finished.

Materials and Feel: A Big Step Up From Stock

I put the stock Onyx RCR seat next to this one and the difference is immediate.

The stock seat is basic and feels like a straightforward faux leather setup. The Saul’s seat is genuine leather and it feels like it—more substantial, more premium, and overall like something designed to be sat on for actual riding.

The foam also feels different. There’s a noticeably cushier, more supportive feel when I put my weight on it, which is exactly what I want from a comfort upgrade.

Installation: Straightforward Swap

This install was refreshingly simple because the seat comes on a genuine RCR pan. That means I wasn’t messing around trying to make something “kind of” fit—I just swapped it onto the bike and it sat right where it should.

Once it was on, the seat and the bike looked like they belonged together, not like a universal part adapted to an Onyx.

Why the “Low Brat” Shape Matters in Real Life

The “Low Brat” style (this one is also a shorty) changes how the bike fits me.

The biggest practical benefit: it helps me flat-foot the bike when I need to. That’s huge for everyday confidence—stopping, starting, backing the bike up, or just steadying it at low speed. It’s one of those changes you notice immediately, especially if the stock setup has you feeling slightly tip-toe-ish.

Quick Ride Impressions

I rode it around locally (it was still cold out here in Michigan), and even in a short ride the seat felt “right.”

It has that nicer cushion feel without feeling sloppy. On the uneven grass it already felt good, which makes me even more confident it’ll be excellent where I actually ride most of the time: on the street.

The other thing I didn’t expect to care about as much as I do: the texture and stitching pattern just makes the whole bike feel more custom and considered. It’s functional comfort, but it also changes the ownership vibe.

Customization: The Real Value of Saul’s Upholstery

What makes Saul’s Upholstery a legit resource for Onyx owners isn’t just that the seats look good—it’s that the options are basically endless.

Depending on your height and weight, you can go more foam, less foam, wider, narrower, different embroidery, different colors, different patterns—the seat can be built to match your bike and your body instead of you adapting to whatever came from the factory.

What We Like

The hex stitch pattern is genuinely unique and looks custom in the best way

Genuine leather and a premium feel compared to the stock Onyx seat

Supportive cushion that immediately feels more comfortable than stock

Comes on a genuine RCR pan for a clean, proper fit

Low Brat/shorty shape helped me flat-foot the bike more easily

In-house embroidery and strong attention to detail (stitching, piping, finish)

Things To Consider

Custom seats are all about preference: foam feel, shape, and height should match your body and riding style

If you want a specific look (colors, stitching, embroidery), take the time to plan it so it matches the rest of your build

This is a style and comfort upgrade—not a performance mod—so value depends on how much you ride and how much the stock seat bothers you

Final Thoughts

This Low Brat Hex seat feels like the kind of upgrade that makes the Onyx RCR feel more “mine.” The materials are a clear step up, the comfort is immediately better than stock, and the lower profile helps with everyday control and confidence at stops.

If you ride your RCR often—or if you’re already customizing the bike—this is one of those mods that you’ll feel every single time you hop on.
